Our History

In an industry marked by steady turnover and tough competition, Glik’s would stand out from the pack on longevity alone. In 1897 Joseph Glik opened the first Glik’s location in St. Louis, MO as a menswear store. A second location in Madison, IL then expanded into a full-blown department store. The company has stayed in the family, and now over 125 years later we are recognized as the 14th oldest retailer in the United States.

In 2021 Glik’s headquarters moved to Collinsville, IL from Granite City, IL where we located for 58 years. Our new 50,000 square foot facility is designed to house our fast-growing office, distribution and e-commerce needs. With the fourth and fifth generations of the Glik family at the helm, we continue to focus on the growth of our company with nearly 70 stores in 11 states.

Our Brand

When you walk into a Glik’s store, we want you to feel like it’s an extension of your closet complete with a few friends on standby to help you find an outfit that will make you feel amazing. Our stores are a product of our communities, our managers, our staff, and our amazing customers. Each store location has been personally chosen by a member of the Glik family. And the design of the store is specifically curated to fit each location with manager and staff insights that guide us as we fill our stores with brands and styles specific to the community. If you walk into our Edwardsville, IL store it will have a completely different design and atmosphere than our Holland, MI location. No cookie-cutter box store branding for us. The signs above the doors may all say “Glik’s,” but the people inside those doors make it a truly unique experience. 

Giving Back

While service is at the core of the retail business, giving back to the greater community has always been an extension of our business approach. Through our website, we offer each customer the opportunity to donate a portion of their purchase to a charity (at no cost to them!) In our stores, we participate in the local Chamber of Commerce in each of the communities where we operate. We also empower and support each individual store to get involved in community events. This is particularly notable on the annual “Glik's Give Back Tuesday” when each store designates a local charity to donate a portion of that day's sales.

Through the generosity of Joe Glik’s philanthropic vision, Glik’s is the benefactor of two community parks: one in Edwardsville, Illinois and one in Highland, Illinois. As a company, we support Lift For Life Academy, The Little Bit Foundation, the Jewish Federation of Southern Illinois, and United Way.
