Trends come and go but basics are forever! Whether you’re building a capsule wardrobe or just looking for a few basic items to keep in your closet, it really all comes down to the basics. Everyone should own some clothing staples that you can style with a variety of looks (casual or dressy), are good quality, and make you feel good. It doesn’t matter what your style is; basics are a must have for anyone!
So, let’s start with what wardrobe essentials you should own. Basics typically include neutral clothing or timeless pieces that can be worn with multiple other pieces in your closet. I like to always have a basic tee (black and white), a button up shirt (white or any other neutral tone), a classic pair of denim, and white sneakers in my wardrobe. This creates a complete, simple look; however, the best part is all of these items can be paired with something trendier, colorful, or not so basic.
Replace the basic tee with a graphic tee and you can still wear the other staples. Wear a bright colored sweater with the denim. Or style some fun heels with the button up and denim for an elevated look. There are endless possibilities in how to style basic clothing items which is why I love them so much! Your wardrobe doesn’t have to be boring even if you have a few basics in your closet. Plus, having wardrobe staples allows you to not say “I HAVE NOTHING TO WEAR” every time you get dressed in the morning. 😉
Depending on the seasons, you can take your essentials to the next level. For the warmer months, make sure you have a basic tank top, denim shorts, and brown or black sandals in your closet. When it gets colder, try a neutral sweater, long lined coat, and brown or black boots in your wardrobe. Along with clothing, gold jewelry and hair accessories are staples every woman could use in their wardrobe. All of these items will stay in your life much longer and can be worn so many ways (you won’t get bored, I promise)!
